Hong Kong CNN —Xiaomi formally launched its much-anticipated electric car — the new Speed Ultra 7 (SU7) sedan — on Thursday night in Beijing. “Xiaomi wants to build a ‘dream car’ comparable to Porsche and Tesla,” he said on Weibo Wednesday. On Thursday, Xiaomi announced that prices for SU7 models would range from 215,900 yuan ($29,874) to 299,900 yuan ($41,497). Xiaomi’s SU7 has been on display in showrooms in 29 cities across mainland China since Monday, according to Lei. The electric 1,093-horsepower Taycan Turbo GT, coming to market this summer, has already set two race track speed record for an electric car. High horsepower numbers and eye-popping acceleration are more common among electric cars than gasoline-powered ones, especially since EVs can have multiple motors. This Turbo GT, a new version of the electric Porsche Taycan, features two motors. One, the standard Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, will be fast but reasonably comfortable for street driving. The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package, though, will dispense with backseats and other comfort items to save weight.

Some Tesla Cybertruck owners noticed their new stainless steel vehicles have small rust specks. A few months after deliveries began, some members of a Cybertruck-owners forum started complaining about rust spots on the vehicle. After all, the Cybertruck is the first stainless steel vehicle to be produced since DMC made the stainless steel DeLorean and later halted production in 1982. The extra upkeep isn't entirely unexpected for experienced Tesla owners, many of whom have taken on the role of early adopters. If Tesla hits Musk's ambitious production targets for the Cybertruck, Tesla is likely to face less forgiving buyers, automotive analyst Ivan Drury told BI.

While that insurance is for a 2022 Porsche Taycan, even friends of his who drive lower-end models are paying more for car insurance, he told CNN. Yet he's seen his car insurance rates increase from $140 a month in 2020 to his current rate of $278 a month. CNN —The Lamborghini Lanzador is only a concept car for now, but the Italian supercar maker says it offers a preview of the brand’s very first fully electric model which will go into production in 2028. With no space needed for a gas engine — in a gas-powered Lamborghini sports car, it would be behind the seats — the Lanzador has small back seats. Other automakers, like Rimac and Automobili Pininfarina (which uses Rimac technology), already sell electric two-seat supercars costing millions of dollars. Porsche — which like Lamborghini is part of the Volkswagen Group — took a similar approach with its first EV. Lamborghini has committed to selling only “electrified vehicles,” meaning either plug-in hybrid or fully electric, by the end of 2024.

While charging and fueling trucks cost the same, other cars and their electric counterparts differ. It's not yet cheaper to charge some electric cars than to fuel them with gas, a new study suggests. It's not yet cheaper to charge many electric cars than it would be to fuel their gas-powered counterparts up with gas, a new study indicates. Trucks cost about the same to fuel and charge, while entry and midlevel cars and SUVs cost more to charge at home and in public than they do to fuel at a gas station, the group found. Luxury-segment EVs may cost less to charge at home than their gas counterparts would cost to fuel.

LONDON, July 28 (Reuters) - British Formula E driver Jake Hughes has smashed a world indoor speed record by hitting 218.71kph (135.9mph) inside London's ExCeL Centre in a modified version of the electric championship's Gen3 racecar. NEOM McLaren driver Hughes, who had three practice runs before his record attempt, warmed up with a run of 214.80kph before further runs of 215.05 and 217.65 through the speed trap. His record attempt was then clocked at 217.65kph. "I felt like I’ve never wanted anything more in my life than having a world record," he added. "It’s all about showcasing the potential of what an electric racing car can do," he told Reuters.

Used Tesla Model 3 and Model Ys aren't depreciating substantially, a new study says. Elon Musk's price-cutting frenzy at Tesla doesn't appear to be impacting the company's impressive resale values, according to new data released this week. Slightly more used EVs are being priced just below $25,000 in recent months in order for customers to get the used credit. In September of last year, Tesla made up for roughly two-thirds of the used EV market. This prevents Teslas from flooding the used car market and gives the company more control over its own resale market.

Elon Musk called Bill Gates' understanding of AI "limited" in a tweet on Monday. Gates wrote a seven-page letter about the potential of AI last week. "I remember the early meetings with Gates," Musk tweeted. In a blog post published last week, Gates wrote about how AI could transform the workforce, healthcare, and education. (Gates left Microsoft's board in 2020 after stepping down as CEO in 2000.)
I've tested 20 electric cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks from Tesla, Ford, Porsche, Polestar, and more. But electric cars are quick, convenient, fun to drive, and quiet. The best ones offer spacious interiors and clever storageToday's electric cars typically use what's known as a skateboard platform, which is basically what it sounds like.
Bill Gates questioned whether Elon Musk's current priorities would make him a good philanthropist, taking issue with his fellow billionaire's ambition to send people to Mars. Gates responded saying he doesn't think Musk is one currently but that this may change in future. Asked by BBC journalist Amol Rajan if going to Mars was a good use of money, Gates said: "Not in my view." In April, Musk said he asked Gates if he was short-selling Tesla — in other words, betting that the price of the electric carmaker's stock would fall. In a Bloomberg interview also in February 2021, Gates said that he wished he had "been more on the long side" of Tesla when asked about Musk's claims.

NEED FOR SPEED The performance-enabled version of Kia’s EV6 is the 2023 EV6 GT, with an available 576 hp and 545 lb-ft entrained in the dual-motor all-wheel drive system. Car and Driver recorded 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.2 seconds for the GT, which is quicker in their testing than the Porsche Taycan 4S or Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance. IF THERE IS one rule that people infallibly remember from driver’s ed, it’s that a yellow traffic light means “clear the intersection.” My wife, Tina, has a particularly expansive interpretation of “yellow,” I’ve noticed, exercising her right-of-way at intersections unto the last millisecond of amber, while I watch through my fingers. It’s for these moments, and drivers, that Kia has purposed the 2023 EV6 GT, a low-volume, time-dilating variant of the company’s chic electric crossover.

But in the tech world: There's one thing we can't seem to escape — layoffs. Elon Musk's Twitter is asking some laid-off workers if they want to come back. Meanwhile, some tech workers who have been laid off are taking to TikTok to post "get ready with me" videos wherein they film themselves — you guessed it — getting ready to be laid off. According to people familiar with the company, divisions including marketing, partnerships, HR, and engineering will be among the hardest hit. Elon Musk is looking to rehire Twitter workers.

If anyone still needs convincing that electric cars need not be boring appliances, the Battista is a convincing, if costly, argument. Electric power promises more acceleration and power without tailpipe emissions and, for better or worse, without the cacophony of a V12. But Lamborghini’s current CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, has said that a proper electric supercar isn’t possible with today’s technology. In an interview with Reuters, Blume brushed aside concerns about his dual CEO role, saying it was not unusual to lead a brand and a company simultaneously. Looking forward, the sports car brand was focused on solving the last remaining software issues created by delays in the collaboration with Volkswagen's Cariad unit, setting out distinct strategies for Eastern and Western markets, Blume said. "I would not rule out that we would have technology that first arrives in the Chinese market and is then rolled out in other markets," he added.
